LED lighting
What LED is? The tomorrow’s light source, coming from yesterday.
The first operating LED prototype was created in 1962. The Technology continues to be explored until the 1990s when the Japanese researcher Shuji Nakamura achieved a significant increase in the luminescence of the blue and green light-emitting diodes, which give a new impact in the entire lighting industry. Thanks to the expansion of this new technology, combined with the decades of experience of our specialists, we were able to develop a wide range of LED equipment with enhanced technical and quality features. The energy efficiency and reliability of these devices makes them suitable for a wide range of applications. In addition to administrative and office facilities, schools, shops and industrial sites, this type of lighting is very suitable for transport connections, historical city centers, monuments and architectural sights, which can be emphasized with this new and fascinating technology combined with brilliant planning and design.
LED is an electronic component with semiconductor PN adapter. When the diode is on, free electrons in the N-layer of the semiconductor migrate to openings which are located in the P layer passing through the PN adapter. During this process, LED emits photons under the form of radiant energy, including some in the visible spectrum (between 380nm and 780nm) (electroluminescence).
White light is generated by a blue LED covered by yellow phosphorus, which transforms light with a long wavelength. This way we receive a white light ray, and depending on the composition of the materials for transformation, the light can be generated in a hot or cold spectrum.
DYNAMIC LIGHT
RGB - LEDs can produce light in different colors. Color diodes can be combined into clusters and being controlled can generate dynamic light arcs with the help of a RGB system.
In order for us to achieve high performance in lighting technology, a new generation of powerful LEDs is being used. These LEDs provide high efficiency, which is represented with the relation between the light stream and the electrical power of the diode known as lumen /watt - lm/w. However, this is not enough: the quality of the produced light must also be taken into account, as being measured by the color rendering index (CRI) and the color temperature measured in Kelvin.
The overall Color Rendering Index (CRI) measures the ratio to which the light radiated by the LEDs accurately reproduces the colors of objects or people which illuminates. The value of the color rendering index ranges from 0 to 100, and abbreviated is known as Ra or CRI. The index is obtained by doing comparison of the LED with a standard light source. We use CRI values above 80, which ensures a real color reproduction of objects which are being illuminated with LED source. The color characteristics of the light are represented in a color chart, as each color has precisely defined coordinates x and y.
Color temperature
A very important light’s quality indicator is its color temperature. In the lighting gear, the color temperature is expressed in Kelvin degrees and describes the tonality of light. The scale ranges from 1600K to 16000K. The low value shows a warm undertone (yellow-red trend), and the higher values are associated with colder tones (with a trend to blue). For example, for the public street lighting, the LEDs color temperature ranges from 4000K to 6000K, for office lighting the range is between 3000K to 4000K.
MacAdam ELLIPSE
To determine the acceptable tolerance for LEDs deflection, manufacturers have adopted a method using Macadam Ellipse and SDCM (standard deviation in color combination), which measures the chromatic sequence divided into 7 steps. The color variations, which are within the frames of the 3rd step of MacAdam ellipse, cannot be perceived by the human eye. The higher the MacAdam number is, the greater are the variation in the LED colors.
The light emitted by LEDs does not contain infrared or ultraviolet wavelengths. A little heat develops on their surface , due to this it is ideal for illuminating delicate objects.
The LED can be an excellent component if it has been used properly. During the design stage of the lighting fixtures , it must be taken into consideration that LEDs produce heat and, in order to ensure their proper functioning, this heat must be diffused. In fact, if the temperature of the luminaire gets too high inside it can cause overheating and damage to the LEDs.
Energy Efficiency - LED light sources are characterized having a long life cycle and high efficiency. The efficiency of the LED is being expressed in ratio lumen to watt, or in other words from luminous stream to power. The properly designed LED lighting, when the correct removal of radiated heat have been taken into account, the protection of the optical system, the use of high-quality materials such as aluminum and glass, guarantee the long life cycle of these luminaires. This leads to immediate reduction in operating costs, especially for difficult-to-access lighting installations.
